Farmall wide front

We have a wide front for a farmall thats been sitting in the back of the shed for20 years in Minn. We bought a super m at that time and the widefront was thrown in the deal We have never put it on. It is the style with tie rods in front has rims with it. The owner told us then he had it on the tractor at one time. The condition is average, doesn't appear to be any welding. Now the question We had a guy express interest in and really have no idea of value or age Can anyone give info on it and any ideas of worth Thanks Denny

Tie rods out front is off an M. They only made front ends like that during M production and maybe early into Super M production so 1939 to 1952.

These tie-rod-out-front axles are not popular. They totally ruin the maneuverability of the tractor; it takes an acre to turn around once you install it. About all they're good for is show tractors and getting a few, "Ooh, he's got the correct wide front on it. Those take an acre to turn around," at the shows.

In like new condition they're only worth about $600 IMHO.

Forgot to add; the casting that bolts to the tractor is different because the H has a narrower frame than the M.

does it look kinda like this??? this is my very late m with a factory wide front on it. altho it doesnt turn on a dime like a widowmaker, i have never had a problem spinning the tractor around. the rims are the non adjustable style without the loops.

Probably $350 to $450. That type could be the wide front attachment for SM tractors until early in 1954 when IH came out with the wide front attachment with tie rods to the rear. Old adjustable wheel base type with tie rods in the front attachment was still available for SMTA tractors for use with beet harvesters if I remember correct. Also any old type left in the parts system could be sold or installed on whatever by dealers.

They are't that bad....If they use the 'set-back
plate' they are quite acceptable, setting way out
fromt they do take "40 acres".If everything was
greased well, the tires were FULLY inflated and the
front was in good shape it steered pretty easy.I ran
the 'old style' for 30+ years.Granted, the Swarts
will turn tighter,thats why I swapped.The 'old
style' brought $500.00 at auction.
