Is an f20 a suitable tractor for a drag type mower? I would like to work this tractor some. The drawbar seems to be in a strange position (really high) for mowing. It seems it would put the mower at a bad angle. I could make a dropped drawbar to attach to it. The pto also seems to be in such a position that the pro shaft would interfere with the drawbar. I've got an 6 foot mower I would like to use. One thing I'm worried about is a lack of cooling capabilities of this tractor due to the lack of a water pump. Maybe I just worry too much. But if anyone has ever worked one of these old girls, please share some of the strong points. Also, how big of a disc is acceptable. Thanks.

The drawbar on a F-20 does have some up and down adjustment. Also put an overriding clutch on it if you use a chopper behind it.

For the drawbar height, try placing the support rods in the next hole forward.
About disc size, my Dad pulled a 15 ft single disc with a Regular in second gear on plowed ground, handled it in third on cornstalks. So i would think it should handle an 8 ft tandem without much trouble.

The original pto shaft is smaller than a modern ISO shaft and is too far back under the tractor. There is a pto extension that puts it in the proper configuration with the ISO sized shaft. The drawbar is adjustable, lots of holes and positions to pick from there. As for cooling the thermo siphon works exactly as it was designed to. The tractor will pull its rated load all day without issue. An 8' disk should match up good.

Andrew, If your F20 has the PTO extension as shown in one of the pictures, you should have no problem pulling a mower. My dad farmed with an F20 for many years until he bought an M in the early 50s. We used it for chopping, harrowing, plowing, etc. and never had a problem with it over heating. Only one problem you might have is if it is the wide thread model, then tires might run over the hay if you take a full cut. My dads was the narrow thread model so that was not a problem with a New Idea PTO mower we had. I still have the F20. Al

I have an F20. No problems overheating the engine. Use it for pulling out saplings and dragging other stuff around. It will run all day long just fine.

just pulling a mower does not even make the engine work. these tractors where designed to work and pulled a plow day after day and the themosyphon system works just fine. there is no lack of cooling capabilities, everything is designed big such as rad and water jacket on top of head, and the engine turns slow.
even the old jd's had no water pump and pulled a plow all day long. nothing to worry about, unless of course you have a plugged rad. will pull 8ft. of double disc no problem.
