Disconnect Transmission Countershaft Coupling

I know this has been answered (and I have it bookmarked at home), but how do I disconnect the coupling between the countershaft and Lift All?

This is a '53 Super M and have a photo below. Does the driving dog need to come out first or do I rotate the female coupling on the pump so it's allowed to be lowered free of the driving dog?

If it's the same as an h, which I believe it is, there should be
two cotter pins you remove then slide the collars in and the
coupling comes out.

If you have the belly pump, you need to rotate the pump so the
coupling is vertical on one side, then lower the whole pump to
get it out. That would mean disconnecting the piping etc... At
least that is how you do it on a regular M.

So if the female coupler on the pump is vertical (which it nearly is in the photo), then the pump should drop free of the dog? Plumbing and lever will be removed too of course.

I studied photos of the H before heading up to the farm, but obviously the SM uses a different and shorter dog.

The pump dropped right out. The slot in the coupler on the pump was vertical and we lowered it down by hand. The drive dog dropped right out. The pump was'nt bad to drop with two of us. I'm not going to think about reinstalling it yet!

Some one did make a two piece coupler that was held in with a cotter pin but I think I saw only a couple in all my years. It was not a good deal anyway as it wore much more than the regular solid one.

Glad to hear it worked! You are right, putting it back in is a lot
more fun. A good floor jack and a helper goes a long way!
