Help with Super C serial tag

I recently inherited my grandpa's Farmall Super C. I'm pretty sure it's all original except the seat & seat base. I know he changed that out for a more operational seat. But, therefore, I don't have the original vin tag so I was wondering if the motor serial number is the same for stamping a new vin tag?? If so, was there any certain prefix/suffix for a wide front end on the model? It's a standard Super C with wide front, no fast hitch. And maybe someone has pictures of a super C vin tag? I need to see the font, max rpms, and number positioning for having it engraved.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

First, The requested photo. Off of a '53 that had a IH wide front end.
Second, I may be wrong, but I cant say Ive ever seen an IH with the same number steamed in the block as in the tractor sn plate.
Third, I dont think there was any special prefix or suffix for front end type.
Fourth,
I can't call if there's a listing of motor serial numbers any where at the Wisconsin Historical society, but poke around.
Fifth, I could be wrong about 1-4.

The way I remember it is the #'s match on an A, B, H and maybe M but not on the C's. This is before the Supers which may be different.
I have three straight C's and none match and I have an A and a H and they do match.

There is no indication on the tag of any Farmall tractor that it came with a certain front end. There was no need to because unlike JD, etc, all the NF, SF, and WF's were interchangeable. My dad had all 3 for one of his H's, and the NF and SF for the other Farmalls.

Serial tags are available from several sources, stamped and not stamped. OEM tractor parts dot com has them. The best as far as quality and correct fonts come from Deiner's. Most others come with all the info except that you have to stamp or have them stamp the serial. There are a few on this forum who can come exactly or very close to the serial if the engine serial is known. Perhaps one of them will see this thread. Don't guess at it because another tractor can have that serial. Another possiblility -- Steel Wheel Ranch has tags removed from junked tractors. You can tell the year of the tractor from the raised date of cast numbers on the various castings. A used tag of that year is ok, because the one it came off of is dead.

Wow, this URL link is great. Guess I've lead a sheltered life as I've never seen it before. The serial number list for Louisville 1947-1967 is very hard to read. I take it that in the table the models A & B, including Supers, are the two top data lines, chassis & engine number, and the C/Super C chassis and engine numbers are the two bottom lines. Right? Engine numbers don't appear to start until June 1952. I've always thought my Super C is a 1952. It's serial number tag shows FC142348. This list shows that number as a chassis number for April 1952. Cool! No engine number is in the table for April, but mine is FMC142185. Is there any way to tell if that engine number is original to the tractor? I have no reason to believe otherwise but still it would be nice just to have documentation.

Thanks everyone for your help and fast responses!! I think I have found that my tractor was made in Feb 52. However I"m not positive this is correct. According to the Wisconsin archives Dave Inman provided a link for, between April of 51 (first super c was made) and May 52, the archives show only a chassis number, no engine number til June 52. Would I be correct in thinking that my engine tag number, 131699, is the same as the chassis number, since farmall made them the same number in certain models/years?? Just hoping I"m that lucky...any opinions?? Thanks again to everyone!!

Only someone with a Super C built before they started listing both the chassis and engine s/n's can answer your question by looking at a pre-June 1952 Super C. I really doubt you will find they are the same though as those tractors where they match were meant to have the same numbers and probably took considerable effort at the factory to keep them straight. The Super C was introduced after the models where the s/n's matched and it was probably considered not worth the effort.
I like the comment by CNKS about finding a salvage tag from a dead tractor that is in a s/n range which would support the casting codes on your tractor even if it is not exactly correct. Both of my Farmall H's have matching engine and chassis no's. and I know they are correct in both cases - one is a 1951 and the other a 1952, Hal.
