Rear Tire size for Super H

What size rear tires are some of you putting on your H's ? I'm leaning towards the 12.4x38, but most seem to be only 4ply, where as the 13.6x38 are 8ply. I've seen pictures of some H's that have tires that just don't look right, just too big, but didn't know the size that where on. What would be the correct rim width for 13.6's ? Priced tires at both Miller & Tucker Tire that's on E-bay, now have to see if there's that kinda money under the mattress, & then getting it out with out the wife finding out ! No I really don't do that kinda stuff to her, but the saying, "It's easier to Beg for Forgiveness than Ask for Permission" works well for me! She's a good sport for putting up with me! Thanks for any opinions, Alan

I had 14.9/38 on 10" rims on a parts tractor that I bought when I had my H. They are now on my 300 till I find some good double bevel rims that I can afford. They do look funny but they are great for me since they are loaded and have lots of traction. I think that the 12.4 or 13.6 would look normal on your Super H. I know that Hs had 10" rims with 11.2 tires on them from the factory and I think that by the time the supers appeared the 12.4 on 11" rim would have taken over.

Years ago I had a 300 row crop that had 12.4 38's. 13.6 would probably work ok. Thinking a 12 inch rim for 13.6. Could be wrong on that. A 4 ply tire should be ok on a H.

I have a pair of SH tractors - one has 13.6 rears, the other 14.9.

The 14.9's give better traction. It's also a bit faster in all 5 gears. Paired with a WFE on this tractor, the larger rear tires don't "look" oversize on it. But I think the NFE tractor looks better with the narrower 13.6 rears.

Just my opinion however...

My personal preference if the budget allows for new tires:
H - 5.50-16 and 11.2x38
SH - 6.00-16 and 12.4x38
M - 6.00-16 and 13.6x38
SM- 6.50-16 and 14.9x38

However I do think my MD looks good with bigger tires. Vision for it is power steering, wide front with 6.50-16s and a set of front wheel weights and 14.9x38s on the rear with two-sets or wheel weights.

I have 12.4's on my H and now have 13.6's on my M. I mounted them on 11 inch rims. The sidewalls look ok to me. I haven't had a chance to try them out, but here are a couple of pics for you.

For what it's worth, my H does well with the 12.4's on it.

For a H or SH, 12.4 x 38, 6 ply, no advantage at all to a larger size or 8 plies unless you have long thorns to go through. Rims need to be 11 inches wide, you can get by with 10 inch, but the rim is supposed to be the same width as the tread, which on the the 12.4 inch cross section is 11 inches.

I put new 11.2 -38 on new 10 in rims on one H and they look a little skinny. Have 13.6 on other H and they are too big. Have 12.4 on the M and the two should be switched but then I can't get the M in the old barn.
