I'm going to guess and say those are like suction cups on the bottom of those tires made for icey slick driving conditions. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone seen any of these around lately? I might be tempted to buy a pair. Well, maybe even a pair for up front too.

This has to be my most favorite old time Farmall picture. The image comes from the Wisconsin archives. That big F-30 makes the driver look like a midget. Beautiful tractor, and a magnificent stone structure.

Had to be pretty careful loading, almost more tractor than truck, looks like about an inch on either side.
I bet it took a few minutes to get THAT tractor on THAT truck up to any kind of relative speed, even for the so-called roads back then.

If I were guessing, I'd say that is the rear of the business...not much need to landscape anything beyond building a loading ramp.

Those "odd looking" tires are Goodyears made back in the 1930's and were fairly common on rubber tired tractors back in that time. They're commonly refered to as "Goodyear Diamond Tread". I remember my Dad running a neighbor's 1934 Allis-Chalmers Model E "Thresherman's Special" tractor that had tires like that. They were okay except in mud they "loaded up" pretty badly and would spin on a "cow patty" in a sod field plowing making the rear end in the big Allis howl quite loud.

On the lack of landscaping,I guess people weren't so concerned about appearances back then especially on the heels of the great depression.

Agreed. Old church and town biuldings are almost always landscape free too in old pics. I just find it interesting how much times have changed in that regard.

I always notice in the old photos how there is a distinct lack of any landscaping.

rubber tires were new technology at that time and you see all kinds of tread patterns until they found out the Goodyear 45 degree bar open tread was the best, then thats what everyone used for the most part .

RobgIN I think your right. The farm tire industry was something new to farming and they were looking for a tread design that would give maximum traction.
