My co-worker has a 4-bottom trip type plow in his yard. I keep telling him he should do something with it before it goes to rust. He said make me an offer. It's been a while since I've seen the plow, but I think it had the colters. Anybody have an idea what its worth? I've got a couple of tractors that MIGHT just pull it. I just hate to see it rusting away. Dale

Depends how much life the bottoms have left... I'd say somewhere between $200-450 would be appropriate. $100 or less if the bottoms are trash.

It"s like farmallboy15 says, it"s all in the worth of the moldboards. Check them closely for wear and broken parts. If the coulters are all there and the landsides not too worn, then the rest of it can be found or fixed. The lifting hub is easy to take apart when you get it home, and simple to repair.

With all that, then $100 for starting offer, maybe up to $250, $300...depending on how bad you want it. Four bottom trip type plows are not as common as 2-3 bottoms. Wish I had a chance at it.

Tell him you will fix it up real nice and then when you plow with it, you will invite him to plow with it a few rounds.
Keeping it from the salvage guys is an added goal.

Save it if you can! I found a lovely old IH plough in New South Wales belong to an old lady whose husband died some years ago. Seven mouldboards. Hired a truck to collect it, but her son called me when I was nearly there to say he wasn't letting it go. It was a serious disappointment because we had already driven three hours to get the thing and I know he will just let it rot under old wire and blackberry bushes.

Thanks for the replies. That is more than I want to spend for a plow I won't use. I only plow a couple of gardens and a food plot. I will tell him what you guys said and see what he thinks. I'll have to take a better look at it when I get the chance. LA I'm just up the road from the twin cities, about an hour from Wisconsin. If your interested you could probly get it.I guess if I drag it home some one will want it. Dale

montidale,
You haven"t yet given him a low ball offer, have you? When he said "Make me an offer", maybe he will settle for $100. You can always get your money back and more if the parts I mentioned are good. Just put an ad in a local "shopper" paper for $300+.
When you go see it, take some pictures and send to me. We have a plow day here with 60 old tractors and plows and there is always someone looking for a decent plow. I am 100 miles SE of Eau Claire.

I have a Int 4 bottom spring reset that I paid 750 at auction about 15 years ago but all depends on the condition of the bottoms the molboards are about $80 each.
