I recently bought a WD-9 it has a rebuilt starter on it..when I put juice to it-it just spins..i took it off the tractor and the way it looks the small gear hits the stop and it needs to go out another 1/2 to may contact with ring gear..there is a 1/2 gap from stop to end of nose cone..any help would be great..

Thanks gents,I had those issues on the last wd-9 I owned,as I look closer the wrong starter drive may have been put in there the bendix gear(if you will)does not have a nick on it-like it has never made contact..any ideas where I can buy the right starter drive?...thanks..

Those 9 ring gears seem to move a little more than the others. It is probably because the starters are mounted different on a 9. IIRC they push from the front where most are mounted behind the flywheel. I would start by looking there.

The starter might be wrong (or the nose cone)
The ring gear could be in the wrong place ((maybe)
If it has worked it might have burrs on the drive splines. Jim
