Okay, now onto headlights for the old girl. My headlights are in good condition with good lenses so all I need are bulbs. The lights had no bulbs in them when I got the tractor and it has been converted to 12V. So, what brand and number of bulb do you guys like to run for a 12V system on an M? Thanks.

You need an 1143. 25 watt, 32 candle power.

Other folks will come up with different numbers, but the 1143 was original equipment.
 
Okay, but if that was original equipment it would be for 6V right? I assumed I would need different bulbs for a 12V system versus a 6V system. Maybe not?
 
if you are running 12volt, you definitly need 12 volt bulbs.6 volt bulbs will last about 2 seconds.
 
Did the 39 M's have a rear light standard, as an option, or no light at all on the back? I don't currently have a rear light but will get one if necessary. Thanks.
 
I know they're not the "correct" lamp, but I used a plain ol' 12V 1156 lamp in my "M". I usually keep a fair stock of that misc bulbs in my shop. When I was putting my lights together they were handy, so I greased them up and put 'em in. They do well for my use...

MDs were 12 volt. Ms were 6 volt. The correct 6 volt bulb is an 1133. 12 volt bulb is an 1143.
 
I believe it is a fit, but I have not had one in my hand. If the base is correct it will operate on 12v. Jim
