My steering motor on my IH1066 is leaking around the large bottom seal. I have replace the seal with one from local IH dealer and now leaks worse than before the repair. Anyone have any ideas on how to ensure a proper seal between the bottom plate and the cylinder.

Just make sure the new seal is correct as there are at least two different ones. It should extend below the sleeve at least 3/16 of an inch. I have added a o-ring to increase the length with success. I put the o-ring on first then the rubber seal.

Thanks for the info Pete23. I have tried both seals from IH one that is approximately the same length as the old seal and it leaked severly. Secondly, I tried the longer seal as you suggest and once the unit was tightened to the proper specs the unit would not turn. The longer seal seemed to be smaller in overall diameter, however it was the only other seal that the local IH dealer had for a 1066. Is there a trick to getting this longer seal in without locking the unit up. You suggested using an O-ring on the ends how can you hold it in place while the unit is alinged and tightened. Thanks for the help.
