Farmall 450 Batt. Cable

I've just finished hauling manure this fall and parked the 450 in the shop. I am going to fix all the little things that need done. Check the fluids, change oil ect.

The battery cable to the starter needs replaced, mice thought it was a good idea to chew the insulation off. I "think" it is 00 gauge, it's harder the all get out to move around. I have gotten the cable back thru the battery box, that's where I'm stalled.

I have all the books, misplaced the ones I need momentarily. What is the easiest way to get the cable from behind the dash? I see several options, just looking for the easiest way.

I am going to have RedTown Tire make some new cables for me, they also have two new 6.50x16 tires for the front waiting for me, I'll get some pictures with her new shoes.

Thanks
Nate

Although most people on this forum insist on 00 gauge, 2 gauge is completely adequate. I have 5- 6 volt tractors with that size. Clean connections are more important than the size. Your 450 may have come with 12 volts anyway, I don't remember the serial break, if so the gauge becomes less important.

No simple way to get that cable out from behind that cowl and no book I ever saw says anything about it. I know one thing, make sure it is routed right as I have seen a few rub through and that is not good under there. If it is six volts, stay with a very heavy cable as it is a very long one and of course voltage drop goes right along with length. If 12 volts, not as heavy. If it is diesel it will be 12 of course, but gas can be either depending on age.

I am one of the few that KNOW 00 gauge is overkill and NOT necessary.
#2 gauge was original, and #1 gauge is a nice up-grade.
