560 Diesel serial tag location?

We have a 560 diesel & we"re wondering if the serial tags were put on left side on the tranny housing? This one we have has been painted over and I can"t make out much for any visible numbers....(just a few and I didn"t write them down.) I was looking for an "X" to see if it was updated by IH in regards to the stronger final drive. I"m just hoping it"s not the earlier 560. At what serial number or year, did they install the stronger rear end? Thanks

If it's still moving after 35+ years of service it was probably updated even if it didn't have the "X" code. I'm sure others will chime in but thats what the general consensus seems to be. You should be good to go.

Yes the serial # plate is on the left side of the clutch housing. Should be more of a triangle instead of a X if marked. Farmall 560 tractors after serial # 23925 came with all the updates at that time. So there was no mark or need to mark the serial tag on those tractors.

Left? My 460 gas has it on the right. It is a High Utility if that makes a difference.

different sides for a 460 and 560. 300 tractors started with serial plates on the right and 460 continued that. 400,450 and 560 stayed on the right.
Correction., should of posted 400,450, 560 stayed on the left.

The update was marked by a dealer with a triangle at the end of serial number. It was only marked if it fell in the serial number below mentioned in another reply. After serial was not marked because it was correct as listed in parts catalog.

i have not seen any of these tractors with #"s on right.??? mine are all on left side. even the 560 farmall is on left side.

Have you looked at a 300 or 350 or 460 tractor?
Thought I made it clear in the posts that a 560 was on the left when setting in the operaters seat. Woops
I see where I messed up, I put right both times in one post. First post I said left then I didn't check myself on the next one.
Other tractors with the same size center housing use the right side location also.
