I re-sealed my leaking touch control unit, it worked fine, but had a small leak at a spool valve. I purchased a re-seal kit, cleaned everything, and put it together.
All went well, I thought, and no leaks. But now it won"t un-load the hydraulic pump, the engine boggs down, and the touch control assembly starts to heat up. If I move the left or right control all is well as long as the piston is moving. When the piston stops moving the engine boggs down again. My shop manual is no help. It worked great when I got it. What did I do? Please Help.
 
Some one may understand better than I and chime in, but what exactly did you re-seal? The pistons that operate the rockshafts?
If you have a spool valve leaking, I assume you have a bypass block to feed a remote valve, that operates some other implement, that is leaking?
 
Your pressure regulator valve should open to release unneeded flow when the system isn't doing anything. Yours is not functioning, probably due to the orifice or orifice screen being plugged. You can get at it through the pipe plug in the head.
 
The screen had a minimal amount of contamination and the orifice was clear. Thanks, and can you think of anything else? Is it possible that the hydralic level being too full could create this problem?
 
I had that happen on mine once, Behind the battery box on the lower right side of the head, there was a small orfice that was plugged up with a piece of grit or sand. If you have the drawing it"s #30.
 
Does this only happen if you run an arm to the end of the stroke, or does it happen if you stop them both somewhere in the middle?
 
Jim, in answer to your question, yes it doesn't unload regardless of where the piston stops in it's travel. I have it on my work bench, and I have the end plate off, anything you can suggest to help me figure this out is greatly appreciated
 
Seems like the pressure control valve has to be the root of the problem. Make sure it is free to move, no burrs etc. I'm not sure which passages lead to/from the valve, but I suppose there could be an obstruction in one of them.
 
Eureka! It is fixed. I put it together for the 7th time, and now it works. Apparently the relief ball end of the unload piston had a odd shaped wear pattern due to 60 plus years of wear and tear. Apparently when re-installing the unload piston, it was never back in the original position. When unload pressure was applied to the unload piston it would cock in its bore when making contact with the unload ball. Dressing up the ball end of the unload piston cured the problem.
