farmall super H wont start

Bought a super h. Has spark and fuel flow to carb is good gas dripping out bottom of carb after cranking. Took a plug out dry as a bone so I know it isn't getting gas to the cylinders. Just can't figure out why any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like the carb is getting gas, but it's not getting into the cylinders. You may have a cracked intake manifold or a vacum leak else where.

Assuming the compression is good, put a teaspoon ful of gasoline in each spark plug hole (plugs back in) and staart it. if it continues to run and start Cool. If there is no joy after 10 seconds, there is probably a manifold leak. (some are internal between the Exhaust manifold and intake. Jim

I like the way John B is thinking, you're not drawing the gas into the cylinders. Cracked/broken warped or obstructed intake manifold, bad gasket on the intake manifold, valves to tight or hanging partially open. Maybe try giving it a hit of starting fluid and see if she responds if not I'd try pulling the plugs and put your thumb over each spark plug hole while cranking it over to feel if you have vacuum, maybe even do a compression test.

504, with all due respect, NONE of my Farmalls need any choke at all if run at least once a month.

If they've been sitting longer than that I'll pull the choke for about 1 second. Any longer than that they flood.

I'm in TX so never see any real cold weather. I also keep them well tuned with fresh gas.

I have Farmall's: 53 SC,53SH,54SH,55 200,55 300.

I do have a JD 60 that needs choke till it fires, then leave at half way to keep running till warmed up. It really like it's choke.

I agree with the opinions that there's a vacuum leak.

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's good suction while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. Low suction
means you have low intake manifold vacuum. Do the compression check as been mentioned and if it looks good you probably have an intake manifold leak somewhere. Quirt a little starting fluid where the intake mates to your engine while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. If the engine fires you've probably found the leak. Try tightening the bolts or nuts on the intake manifold if that doesn't help you probably need a new gasket. Hal

Ok, first off, has anything been changed recently?

They don't suddenly develop a massive vacuum leak overnight unless vandalism is involved, unless you've been working on the tractor.

If gas is dripping out of the carb, then it is flooding. Choke will only make it worse.

Strange nobody else has said it yet, the float is stuck, take a 3# hammer and whack the carb, start it with NO CHOKE.

The guy who says they like choke doesn't know what he's talking about. When its cold I give me Super M half choke until it fires, then no choke and it fires right up. If I choke it any more it'll flood...

problem is the carb is leaking out the neck so its overfilling which means the float isnt stuck. nothings been changed recently. the old guy im buying it from said his son drove it about 3 months ago and parked it it the barn and hasnt run since.
