Intermittant discharging on H

'Ole H runs good but time to time battery will go dead in a week or less. Not always, when it doesn't it whips starter over nicely. I'm going to get a draw-down test done on battery, but I'm not suspecting it 1st as it's a year old. What's likely to drain it occasionally or not let it charge occasionally. Amp meter hasn't worked "forever", far before this problem came up.

Any good thoughts would be appreciated. I've already done the bad thoughts myself.

Thanks!

I have had that happen. Points under the voltage regulator cap may not be opening up each time you shut down. Might have to open them up a tiny bit more. You will have to bend them slightly wider with needle nose plyers or there might be an adjustment screw. Just make sure they close when it is running so you are charging.

First we need to know what charging system it has. Is it completely stock as in from the factory, or converted to 12v, or even with an alternator. We need to know if it haws a coil and points setup, or Magneto ignition. Giving advice without knowing what we are discussing can let the smoke out of many parts. (not good)
A battery freshly charged can provide starting and running ability for a week if modest use, and act like it is being charged even though it is being run slowly down. If your gauge does not move I suspect the fact is that it is not charging. 12v batteries will have 6 cells, 6v will have 3.
Generators are 7 inches long and cylindrical, alternators are shorter, and aluminum. If it is an alternator, we need to know what kind, or take a picture. If generator, not an issue. Jim

It's bone stock with mag and generator, + ground, no alterations ever. I've compared it with another late 40's H and they're identical. I'd wondered about the regulator, but have no idea what does what under the cover!
