IH 484 Hydraulics issues

I recently purchased an ih 484 with a boom mower
which was working great but there are some
hydraulics issues that is starting to act. When i
first start up the tractor the hydraulics work
great. Then after about 3-5 minutes i loose power
steering and my rear remotes go dead. It seems as
if the pump runs dry and looses its prime. If i
shut the tractor off and wait a minutes when i
restart it, it does the same thing. So i'm
thinking that the filter may be plugged. I order
a new filter and am going to swap it out. Does
anyone have any idea as to what else i should look
at?

Hi njfarmer, since both PS and remotes stop working it is not likely a sticking MCV.
First check the transmission/hydraulic oil level with engine running about 1400 RPM and any attached remote cylinders fully extended. The dipstick is by your left heel on foot rest. There are hash marks on dipstick for proper level. Does not hurt to over fill by 5 gals.

I have an idea, if the filter doesn't help you out. That tractor is kind of divided into two sections in the frame. The pump pulls oil out of one section and dumps it back into the other section. There is a lube pump that pumps lube oil out of that section and in the process of lubricating it returns the oil back to the section the main pump pulls oil out of. There is a screen on that lube pump and it commonly gets plugged with the remains of the hand brake linings. You can access that screen to clean it from behind the big round plate if I am remembering that part correctly. So, one section gets over full and other section starves if that lube pump for any reason does not do it's job.

I should have added that the fluid will eventualy get from one section to the other through bearings and shafts but slowly.
