Farmall 400 powersteering pump

I recently brought a Farmall 400 gas tricycle front end. It originally had power steering on it but it was removed for some reason. When i brought it the pump came in a box completely disassembled. I was wondering if anyone had any diagrams or pictures of the pump assembled and or on the tractor. Thanks for any help.

The factory sysem used the tractor hydraulics to power the torque generator. Thus no pump. If you refer to the torque generator (motor) there should be diagrams of parts at caseih.com Search for parts and service, then go to search for parts (in small red print and put in 400. Jim

I have a 450 that has the Behlin power steering unit....are you saying that the tractor does not have a hydraulic pump at all? As in: there is no hydraulic pump between the distributor and front cover of the engine?

With respect: Pumps move fluid by mechanical force input, and fluid movement as output. Like a boat motor pumps lake water rearward to move the boat forward. A hydraulic motor, or torque generator uses hydraulic pressure to get mechanical output. Your system if original uses the hydraulic pump on the right front of the engine (hoses or steel lines near the distributor) to provide pressure to the power steering torque generator on the steering shaft. The first valve in the lever stack under the dash sheetmetal on the right side has the priority valve in it that controlls pressure to the torque generator. Jim

Maybe you have a char lynn system with a eaton pump. Does the pump have a shaft that a pulley goes on for belt drive?

Im trying to figure it is mounted on the tractor. I found where the hydraulic lines connect. I received the unit completely disassembled. It say Behlin on the housing. the previous owner told me it broke and they could not find parts for it, but i dont know what parts are missing or broken. Im a machinist by trade. Its just a matter of figuring out what broke and hows its mounted.

Picture of a behlen pump. Picture of a behlen power steering unit mounted in the steering shaft on a 350. 400 has different retaining braces but mounts about the same. Last picture is some parts that should be on the tractor when it used the tractor hydraulic pump and system.

D Slater Thank you for these pictures. Half my problem solved.

I'm going through the same installation. Based on your pictures I have all the right parts. What I've been looking for are pictures of the priority valve installed and a plumbing diagram. Is there any chance you have pictures of these?

FYI, I have a the same unit off a 400 and looking to install on a 300 row crop.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
