Farmall H and 340 Question

Is a 340 engine able to be directly bolted to a Farmall H or would I be better off sticking with the engine in the H? I don"t want to fool around with it if it is not a direct bolt in.
Thanks

I do not know if they would or not but the H engine is a C152 engine and the 340 is a C135 engine so you would be installing a smaller engine it to that H if they would swap

No, they are two different family of engines. The H engine is a much more heavy built engine. Anything can be "made to work" with enough effort, time, and money, but I would definitely not recommend it.

well i know a guy that put a 340 diesel engine into a w-4 , which is the standard model from and he calls it his wd4, but no its not direst bolt in.

Ya as per the Neb. test list the H has 26HP and the 340 has 34HP but things like how the govanor is set up and other such things come into play to gain the extra HP

The 340 engine runs at a higher rpm to make the HP , also the 340 engine is related to the "c" in construction. during that era IH used the 340 to fill a hp gap in there line up. If you ever look at a 404 you will see the same gas as the 340 hooked up to a 240 trans. but good luck on hooking them up. the 504 is the same bore and stroke but is based to 340 engine.

I believe an engine from a 350 is the same block but quite a bit higher horsepower. It's said to be a pretty straightforward swap. Or have the H block bored out to use sleeves/pistons from a 300 or 350.
