424 loader hydraulics

I have 424 gas with a freeman loader. One of the previous owners hooked it up using a prince pto pump and a auxiliary hyd tank. this set up works well but I can't borrow or rent any pto driven implements because I require a shorter pto shaft. The tractor does have power steering and 1 aux valve. How can I hook this into the existing hyd pump or can I get a front crank mount pump to run it off of. Also this tractor has a single engine driven pump could I get one of the double pumps and run it that way. thanks Chris

I'm not familiar with a 424. Does it have an auxiliary valve connected to two couplers on the rear for attaching hoses to operate a remote hydraulic cylinder? Does the loader have a valve bank with two levers, one for lift of loader and the other for tilt/dumping bucket? If so , remove the pto pump and all the hoses connecting to the valve bank on the loader, the reservoir and the pump. Get whatever hoses ( diameter and length ) bushings, adapters, etc. and the male coupler tips that fit your couplers on the rear of the tractor. Attach one hose to the inlet port of the valve bank ( this will be the replacement hose for the pressure supply line that ran from the pto pump to the valve bank), the other to the outlet (return) port of the valve bank ( this will be replacement for hose that ran from valve bank to the reservoir and then from reservoir to the pto pump). Connect these new hoses to your rear couplers . Use twine or wire or rubber strap to keep the aux. valve operation lever in open flow position. This will allow oil to be continuously flowing through the valve bank on the loader. Move valve bank levers to operate loader cylinders. You will have to, through trial and error, determine which coupler and hose goes to the inlet on valve bank in order to get proper operation of oil flow to the loader. Pull back goes up , push forward goes down. You may find that if you are using three point hitch mounted equipment , that it may be necessary to move ( untie it) the tractor aux. valve lever to neutral position to get the hitch to lift a load.

I have operators manual for IH 2001 loader that has some info for using on a 424. Perhaps you could get some info from it that may be helpful. E-mail me if you have questions. .

Hi Chris, 424 if basically same as 434. If you tap into the remote outlet at front of seat then you CANNOT use loader and 3pt at same time. Does loader have hydraulic bucket and up and down pressure?
The proper way is to tap into the high pressure line from hydraulic pump going back to reservoir under the seat.

yes loader has hydraulic up and down as well as tilt up and down for bucket. I believe I have what is known as power beyond in this as well since I have one aux hook up (spool on left side of seat). Would i be better off tying into the hydraulic after the power steering split?

Hi Chris, can you post a picture of loader spools and power beyond spool and the hydraulic lines from power steering splitter back to hydraulic reservoir under the seat.
Does the power beyond operate from the tractor pump or PTO pump?

Hi Chris, the usual loader hookup on that model of tractor is to remove the high pressure hydraulic line from the PS splitter to the hydraulic reservoir under the seat. A hydraulic hose is then connected to the high pressure port on the PS splitter to the inlet of the loader spool valves. The outlet port of the loader spool valves is then connected to the high pressure inlet port to the hydraulic reservoir under the seat. The dump port out of the loader hydraulic spool valves is connect via a low pressure hose to a pipe T connected into the hydraulic filler plug at the rear of the seat. I looked for a photo of the hookup but could not find one.

Your best solution may be to install a front crankshaft mounted hydraulic pump. The set up was common on the Industrial models. It uses the transmission as additional reservoir and gives you many more GPM than the regular hydraulic pump. If you use the current hydraulics for the loader it will be very slow in use.
