Trying to take 2 tractors and make one, what were the differences between the two engines, was it just bore size? Are the ccylinder heads the same? Which engine was better? Any help is appreciated!

Junky

While you are at it just take the sleeves out and make 301's out or them.

is it as easy as dropping sleeves and pistons in or do you have to machine the block? Is the stroke the same as the 263/291???? I am pretty sure I am either going to have to do a head shim or meth injection even though the compression is only 7.5:1, more than likely meth injection because of the cold blooded nature of these engines.

The 301 is sleeve less .I did one years ago, honed the block got pistons and rings and pins.Used a piston rig to fill the top flange bigger than the 301 ring.

I do believe you are correct. The blocks are all the same just alittle different bore size and spacing. As for which one is better,I believe if you are gonna burn that much gas, might as well have all the power you can get. The 291 was the later version of the 263.

They are both 706 tractors, i am going to put one together with intentions of a keystone turbo set up and going to shoot for 125-150 hp. The 263 is complete and runs but has one bad valve, the 291 is torn down, stuck and I am missing the rocker arm assembly, valve cover and intake/exhaust manifolds which is not that big of a deal since I am going to turbo it. Basically I am trying to figure out what parts are specific to each different engine.

I can tell you now that neither one is a good choice for tryen to pull 150 hp out of . as for a plain STOCk engine myself i like the 291's and can get a good 92 hp out of one . The down side is FUEL to keep it going . putting a hair dryer on a four main engine she ain't ah going to stay together. Done been the route with turboing gas engines . But it is your money and your time .

I am a slow learner and one of those guys that can't seem to leave anything alone. I am not happy until I break something. Got an 806 that is pretty healthy and I haven't broke it..... ..yet!

IF ya break a 806 then your one of them type that could destroy and anvil with a rubber hammer.

So are there any differences between the 263/291/301 cylinder head, intake, exhaust or carburetor?

Heads manifolds are pretty much the same . as for the blocks vary little here except the 301 as it has no sleeves and a little more meat in the cylinder area but still a 4 main block. Carb wise a little different on jetting on the 263 and 291 but the 806 has a bigger venture and that can be installed in any .

Well, if that is your plan there is no replacement for displacement!

The blocks are identical, externally.

What two tractors are you trying to combine? IH upped the RPMs on the 263 when they went from the 560 to the 706.

Define "better."
