Help Indentify Planter on '51 Farmall C

I have been reading the site over the past couple of years and joined earlier this year. Sure have learned a lot about how these things work from all the posts. My tractor is a 1951 Farmall C. My grandfather has had it at least since the 60s. I grew up driving on it and now my children are getting that experience as well.
This past year I was able to get my grandfather to teach me how to farm. We used a 6 foot plow to break the ground and then we used the side mounted planters to plant corn and peas. The planter he had for the Farmall came with the tractor when he bought it; I’m thinking it might have come with the tractor when it was originally bought. My grandfather had not used the planters since the 70s. Typically, he used the tractor to break the ground and then plant the seeds other ways (small garden).
Everything mechanically setup ok on the planter, but I would like to get/learn more about the planter and get a user manual off the internet to learn the setup details.
The planter has two hoppers, one for seeds and one for fertilizer. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the fertilizer equipment any more. The seed hopper has two compartments one labeled corn and one labeled peas.
I have attached pictures of the planter and then just some other ones for fun.
[b:b2e3326e70]My biggest request:[/b:b2e3326e70] Would any of you be able to help identify my planter and point me toward a manual?

[b:b2e3326e70]My 2nd Question (more for future reference):[/b:b2e3326e70] The 4th picture a picture of the drive internals that is attached to the brake drum drive. This is ultimately what drives the planter. I only have one of these parts and I have not been able to find any others. I am having a machinist make a duplicate so I can use both planters. Any ideas on where to get replacements? I have called multiple internet and the local IH Case places with no success.

they are duplex hoppers binder books should have a
book when you get fertilizer hoppers be sure and
wash them out and let them dry then put them in a
drum of used motor oil or diesel

BinderBooks is your best scource for (IH) books. The
implement you are pulling is not a "6ft breaking
plow",it is a 6ft (non hydralic)tandem disk.Maybe
someone will post a pic of a real Super C moldboard
plow.

Matt, I have a C-221 planter side dresser on a demo C in the tractor pictures to left. My side dresser has the clutch as does yours but my planter is ground driven. Your planter almost looks like a cub planter with duplex hopper.
Mabe you have a combo of 2 units there. oldiron29

According to my FCI-1A "Farmall Implements Manual for C&SC", available from Binder Books. It
looks like you have a C-277 planter unit with runner bottoms and C-61-B fertilizer attachments.
Hopper is duplex type.

Finding the drives for a C is going to be tough. I accumulated 2 sets by accident looking for
drives for my SC. It took well over a year and I ended up buying several tractors just for those
parts. I recently sold those 2 "C" sets on eBay. Mine where the only sets I've ever seen. SC drives
are just as hard to find, folks are asking between $3-600. Having yours duplicated is a good
choice.

Be sure the one you have made is the mirror immage. If there is a tractor junk yard near by check it out. If you happen to see a C for sale on eBay with the drive unit in place buy the tractor to get the drives. Fertalizer hoppers go for about 2 to $300. Are you near ATL. I have the exact same set for my 200. (I had to modify the right planter mount to get it to work on the 200.) I grew up using a unit just like your except on a 200.

Thanks for all the feedback. Should have posted a lot earlier.

I am near ATL LMack, I'm in Alabama.
Thanks for the details. I'm not sure if there are any tractor junk yards around, but I'm just learning about the tractor world.
My drive is slotted on both sides which allows it to be reversable so it will work on either side. I am having the duplicate to match.

I have more parts questions if you guys don't mind me asking the simple stuff.

Thanks!
Dean, does this manual go into any setup detail? I saw it in binder books but I wasn't sure if it was just a part book or a setup book.
We used it this spring to plant, but I know there are some good details out there on how to get it setup to plant properly.

No it does not go into set up details. It is a parts break down
manual only.

I have a C-279 black land planter. Once I figured that out, I went
looking for the manual. I found one on eBay. I'd try Binders
books. I've also had good luck finding manual by contacting ebay
sellers that deal in manuals and have them find what i'm looking
for.

My Farmall H came with various parts of a similar planter. None of the driving gear was there. Not something I have ever seen used in this part of the world, but then basically you have to use disc ploughs here because the ground is so hard that mouldboards just won't do the job. We have a maximum of 4 inches of topsoil above hard clay.

There is a junk yard in north Alabama . . . I just do not know where. There are two guys out North East of Montgomery who part out Farmall tractors.

LMack, if I do get the fertilizer hopper and tube down to the ground, how do you set that up? I haven't been able to find a manual yet. Looking at your picture the fertilizer line is offset from the planter. How close do you put the fertilizer to the planter line?

Dean and anyone else that might could help.
I have contacted the manual providers that I could find on eBay and binder books and no one has been able to find a match to the c-277 planter that dean identified for me.

Are there any other resources that you guys have used to find manuals? I am going to continue to contact eBay people as i find them.

how close is the c-277 to others in the c-270 series of planters? I have found a Manual for a c-271 that is available but I am not sure how similar these are to each other.
