Allis Chalmers Value

I know this is the Red section but i don't want the orange guys opinion on this since i m red also.

Always liked the smaller A/C machines and have been looking at a few and have always noticed the value is a lot lower than other tractors.

Why is this? Not as useful in their time?

Seems like a C's or WD's are very cheap until you get into the D series (which i would like to get a late D-17 or D-12)

Isn't that 'B' a cute lil sh*t?

I had a chance to buy a freshly painted AC B in the early 1990s for $1,300. It started super easy and ran very well. Probably around $1,500-$2,000 these days.

My friends run a CA Allis on the hay rake. It is a nice little tractor for raking.

Not sure why their value isn't there. It is weird. They were made an hour from here and they still don't have a huge following. The guys that do like them are pretty hardcore.

All depends on the part of the country your in. Some places the A/C tractor go higher then the Farmalls do and all depends on which ones. As for Agco yep they now own A/C as well as MF and Oliver/white and a few other brands. My self I have most of the common brands and yep I prefer some over the others. I have Oliver and IH and A/C all in the field right now with my hay equipment hooked up to them

Hard to get on and off and really uncomfortable to run in my opinion. This would help keep the values low.As someone once told me" they are the hired help tractors."

(quoted from post at 13:58:24 06/15/12) where were they made at?

did AG CO buy them?

West Allis, WI

The factory was turned into a strip mall. There is a Harbor Freight there. There is also a really big crane that they left installed. You can see it on the SE side of the complex.

B's are neat little tractors- I've thought of buying one, but I think a super C is nicer. I would consider a CA. I've been on a WD-45 enough, they are good tractors, but the position you "Straddle" it in isn't as comfortable for me as an M or 450. I'd like a D-17 or D-19- A buddy has a D-17 and it's a great tractor. I think from a working standpoint, a d series or newer is what to buy.

The CA is the same way. The thing I don't like about them and Fords is how you straddle them and there is only one place to put your feet. Don't hate me, but I really hate driving Farmall As and Bs as well. Give me a "real" tractor anyday.

Comenting on getting on and off AC WD 45, 50 years ago neighbor , older gentelman from tennesse . Fellow had been turning left plowing. At end of land, first time to turn right miss judged slid tractor into deep ditch. It was on side almost rolled on top. Dad and I were asked to bring big tractors over and pull out. Dad asked old fellow if he jumped off or rode it down all the way. Old gentelman replied " Well he## Jim you cannot but hardley get off the dam thing when it's sitting still let alone when it's rolling down in a ditch". As Dad had a WD 45 for wagon pullin, feeding work we had to agree.

I don't like A's and B's, Either. They just don't feel right to me. Give me a C or super C anytime.

I found that some of the early AC tractors were not entirely user friendly. Hard to get on and off. Impossible to reach some controls from the driver's seat and, (this is subjective of course), Farmall tractors just look much neater; like they really mean business. I drove an AC and found that the Farmall H was better in almost every respect. As has already been said, getting on and off the thing was hardly a pleasure.

Same for early Case tractors. You never know what side the clutch is on for starters. They were made in Racine so you have to like them, too.

My brotherinlaw has a 1939 B it is a realyy neat little tractor. He kinda lost intrest in her so I got her home and started workning with her and man she runs like a top. I used to crank and crank until I put a new set of Champion plugs and she now starts on the second crank of the crank. And runs like a top. I like the orange also, I am red and flambeu but I like the orange also . As long as it aint green I think there good.
