460 Farmall power steering delete

The best way would be to find a parts tractor without power steering and use that front bolster.

You could possibly make the PS worm shaft and parts work in the front bolster if you removed the sealing rings on the piston but the PS worn shaft is designed to move in and out to allow it to move the control valve. You would need to remove that end play and then seal off the opening for the steering control valve and then fill the bolster with oil.

The hydraulic system can be removed by removing the pumps and using block off plates over the pump output ports. Remove the auxiliary valves and piping. Then block off the return port to the transmission.

I was about to do the same thing on my 460 ie delete power steering and all hydralics. Started thinking the 460 uses two pumps one for hydralics and one for power steering if I could remove hydralic pump and maintain power steering pump. Here is what I am going to try. I am going to remove pump gear from hydralic pump to disable it but still alow it to drive the power steering pump. If this works like I think it will the hydralic pump will work as the adaptor that was installed in tractors that came without lift hydralics originally. Not sure if this will work but I plan to start tomorow. Will update when I finish.

This is going to end up being a pulling tractor for my son, so it just needs to be able to steer well enough to load and unload and go down the track. Could I just cut the 2 lines that go back to the pump and put a hose in between the two that go to the steering, then just remove all hyd pumps etc? At least until I could find another non power steering bolster that would fit inside the frame rails.

I finished removing all the hydraulics from my 460 today. Left the power steering pump and removed the pump gear from the hydraulic pump. That way no hydraulics and I still got power steering. My daughter likes the power steering.
