Farmall Super A clutch won't disengage

I tried to adjust the three height screws and the
pedal adjustment, but I couldn't get the clutch
disengaged. I even tried starting it in gear with
the clutch in and it was a no go.

I thought maybe I damaged the pilot bearing, but I
just split the tractor, and the pilot bearing is
fine. I'm wondering if I put the lining in
backwards, but I'm not sure how I could have. The
flat side goes towards the engine, right?

Yes, the flat side goes toward the engine.
I don't think you could have put the disk in backwards, I don't think you can put the pressure plate back on with the disk backwards.

Can you tell if the throwout bearing is pushing on the pressure plate fingers when the clutch pedal is pushed down?

WOrn splines in the clutch shaft will do what you describe. The new clutch gets stuck on the worn splines and continues to push against the FW. In most cases, it takes resplitting, to get at the splines. Either replace the shaft, or use a dremmel to remove the binding edge, or shorten the new hub some to comply with the worn section. Jim.

I found out what was wrong! I put the vibration damper plate together wrong at the transmission. It lengthened the drive shaft by about an inch and that was enough to put the shaft in contact with the engine full time.
