Painting H carb?

Cleaned up my H carb and put a kit in it. Looks almost too nice to paint. I like the bare metal look. OK to leave as is, or should it be painted? I've seen them black and red.

If the original black oxide finish is still there, you can leave it as is. If the black oxide is gone, and the carburetor is just bare cast iron, you need to paint it. If you like the bare metal look, paint it with clear coat.

If you want to you CAN have them powder coated. BUT,if they do,it needs to be someone with a good back ground in it. You DO NOT wanna plug anything up inside of it!! ;)Do the outside only.

I am personally goning to do a good epoxy or ceramic type coating on mine the next time it is apart.(I keep doing the "cheap paint" all the time.)

There is a coating that will keep it looking like bare metal, I can t find the name but it is listed in Hemmings Motor News. I found it, "RPM",Rust Prevention Magic. 800-952-1753 $35.00 for 12oz

I chose not to paint the carb on my "M" either...I spray a light coat of WD-40 on it from time to time...

I did "clear coat" the polished brass with a spray can of clear high heat engine enamel...
