i have a 706 with the d282 engine and my exhaust pipe comeing out of the exhaust manifold is very loose and wabbly, the threads look perty well shot on both the pipe and manifold, is there anything i might be able to tighten up the exhaust, or do i have to replace the whole manifold

The best/right way is to get a new piece of 2"pipe with pipe threads on one end. Then find a 2" pipe tap and rethread the manifold.Or,you can just weld the pipe to the manifold.I've done both and you can do the repair right on the tractor.

Getting someone with a pipe machine to cut a oversized thread on a new pice of pipe might help.Pipe dies are adjustable but tapes are not and the deeper you go the bigger your manifold will be.Bud.

Pipe threads are already tapered. There is no such thing as cutting an oversize thread. Just thread the pipe in as far as it will go after chasing the tread in the manifold.

Hi

I would try a product called Devcon A it is a 2 part plastic steel. Once it is curred it is machinable. I would put it on the manifold and once curred tap new threads in the manifold. Make sure all the rust is gone and you are down to bare meatal on both manifold and pipe. I have used this product on my cockshutt 90 manifold and it seems to take the heat.

Cheers

Russ
