350D starting

Has anybody come up with a good alternative starting "system" for the 350D engine? Any parts available for the original heater setup? A block heater will of course help, but something to get it to start easily without resorting to the spray can or a cord would be nice. I'd like to put my 350D Ute on the hog to free up my 8N, as I picked up a loader for it for yard dog duties, and the N made mowing fun as you get on, push the button, go- the 350D sounds like Jack the Bear, barkin' little sucker and sounds much better than my SMD's, just needs to be more user-friendly- it's easier to start the SMD's than to get that Conti to fire off

My neighbor had a 350U Diesel it had the same issues yours does. He used spray cans of ether every start unless it was within 30 seconds of stopping. My opinion is that they can use a whiff of juice, but measured is better than slapping the rings down around the rods. Jim
one measured shot system.

Must have something to do with the age/hours on the tractor. I ran one a lot back in '64 when they were only a few years old. Never had a problem starting it, it just did not have a whole lot of guts.

my 350d was never a strong starter even after a complete restoration. it got a little worse each year and even acted like a vapor locked gas engine if u attempted a restart when up to temperature. i finally recalled that my pump guy said the hydraulic head was marginal. purchased n.o.s. pump from montys (chicago) & pump guy put its head & parts from original together wow! starts better than ever! having said that, u will still need help when it is cold. that is the nature of most lanova combustion chambers
