Light switch wiring help needed. 4 position switch

Hello,
I just received my "exact replacement" light switch for my Farmall 450 Gas tractor.

I know, I know... It's not, but that what they claim on e-bay, so, since I need a switch, and it does fit the hole, I was wondering if I could just get a little info. What I want to know is which terminal is the BAT terminal, after that I can figure out which ones the other are except for the two that are connected by the resistor. I know that they at for Headlights (HL) and instrument light (INST). How do I figure out which one is which?

Also, I see in one of the pics that a terminal is labeled "CULT" at least that is what it looks like, what does that mean?

Can you please help with which numbers are what...

If it helps, the #1 has two set screws...??

I think I need a:
RL --> Red light ?? (saw this from other posts)
HL --> Head light
TL --> Tail light
BAT -> Battery
INST > instruments

I am assuming #1 is RL and #5 is HL but the letters are not in the best shape.

Thank you
Tony

When the switch is full CCW from the knob point of view, it is off. in that position only one of the terminals will be isolated from every other terminal. It is the input from the amp meter.
In D position one end of the resistor will be full voltage (or no resistance) from that input terminal. That is to be left not attached to anything. with that same test, the other end of the resistor will show about 1/2 voltage, or 4 ohms or so. That is the end attached to the main headlight wires. When it is turned to B, that same terminal should have full voltage or no resistance from the input terminal.
In either D or B positions other terminals should go to instrument lights, full volts, or to the rear light. (RL) I believe the rear light gets full volts on either D or B positions. The light on the tractor shining on the tillage equipment (rearward) is switched at the light housing to red with a switch knob, it is not selected to be red at the main light switch. It could be that one of the positions only has one terminal connected. If that is the case it is possible that that is the rear light, and is for use as rear light only. (my best guess)

I think you have as indicated a four position switch.1 Off, 2. dim head lights and red tail, 3. bright head lights and red tail, 4. bright head lights and white lights in rear. So, RL means rear white, and TL is red tail light. Confusing part is the coil as both end will show continuity when in on positions, but head lamps have to be hooked to the end opposite end of instruments.

Since the switch could have come from almost anywhere in the world the is no guaranty that the letters on it are for English abbreviations.

The terminals at the ends of the resistor are for the head lights and the instrument panel light. If they are connected wrong there will be no difference between dim and bright. Just swap the wires to correct.

Of the other three there will be two that never have any connection between them no matter which position the switch is in. Those two are the red tail light and the white rear light. The third terminal is for the battery lead. Of those two for the rear, one will have a connection to the battery lead in two positions and the other in only one position. The one with a connection in two positions will be for the rear red light and the other one is the white rear light.

"cult" may indicate that it is for a JI Case tractor. We have an 830 whose positions are off, dim (head w/rear), brite (head w/rear), and Cult (heads off, rear on, and fenders for cultivation on). Those tractors have head lights in the front grille and fender mounted lights for field operations.

check the behavior on the bench if you can
