Just wanted to let everyone know that I have survived my fall off the back of my SMTA all beaten up with several broken bones but getting better all the time. Typing is still an issue with my broken shoulder so haven't posted anything since getting home from the hospital. Still have a lot of rehab and physical therapy in front of me into the new year but making progress all the time.
Would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, cards, emails, get well wishes sent through this site, etc. as I could have covered the walls of my hospital room with them. What a great group of friends and acquaintances I have acquired through this IHC/Farmall association I reacquired following my retirement over 10 years ago. Very anxious to get back to a couple restoration projects I had in work before my accident but have been limited to just locating needed parts at this time.
Merry Christmas to all and may your 2012 be everything you hope and wish for, Hal.

Was thinking of you just yesterday. So glad to here you are on the road to recovery. You will be in my prayers. Have a wonderful Christmas Hal and I am so glad you are still with us.

We miss your comments and input. I am very glad you are becoming operational. SOmetimes we need to treat ourselves like we do a tractor being restored. We are not fresh from the Plant door any more. Jim

Glad to hear you are home and recovering. Take the time to RESTORE yourself before getting back after those tractors.
Merry Christmas and a safer New Year

Lowell, nice to see your post and I certainly can because it was so simple and very easy to repeat. I was getting ready to move my SMTA tractor into my new heated tractor shed addition I completed this past summer for the winter and the battery needed a charge. The battery being beneath the seat so I removed the forward two bolts which hold the seat in position to the battery box. Hooked up the charger and let it run for a couple of hours while doing something else. After it was charged I flipped the seat up and put one of the hold down bolts back in place finger tight. Jumped up on the tractor to start it and that bolt flew out and the seat with me in it flipped over backwards. I landed on my head and left shoulder breaking several bones along with a big gash on the back of my head. Finger tight is not good enough for that bolt that's for sure. I will never do that again without putting both bolts back in and tightening them up. I just thought maybe the battery needed replacement and would have to remove them again later. I'm guessing my head height would have been about 8 feet above the concrete floor so I'm sure I hit very hard. Glad to be on the road to recovery but still have several months to go with the spinal fracture at L1. My collar bone, shoulder socket and ribs have done well and now trying to get full use of my shoulder again through therapy and my back through exercises. Hope to be fine again this spring sometime, Hal.
P.S. You look good in a Santa suit if that was you on the tractor that was posted the other day as "Dad's 1950 Farmall H", Merry Christmas.

Hal,

Yeah, that was me in the Santa suit. At my old age I figure to have fun now before I can't climb on that tractor anymore.

We had about 12" snow when that picture was taken a couple yrs ago; today we only have 1" but it's a white Christmas....sorta.

Glad you are better and not in a wheel chair for life or worse.

Merry Christmas to you, your family, and all the readers on this site.

Glad to hear that you're healing up. That sure sounds like a nasty fall. I've come close to the same fall- But I didn't. I forgot those bolts altoghether the time I did it. I happened to be leaning foreward when my seat pivoted and I cought myself.

Best wishes to you and All! -Andy

OUCH !! Makes my shoulder hurt just to read what happened.
Congrats on making it back home, a much better environment to accelerate the healing process. Take it easy, and above all, Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you & your family, glad you are OK.

Hal--that is fantastic news! Our wish for you and Carol is that this year will find you "restored" and able to make the trip you missed after the accident! Thanks for getting us caught up and hopefully you will find 2012 the year of total recovery! Sorry this is a bit late but Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! God Bless!! Steve

Glad to hear from you Hal! I"ve been wondering how you were doing and hoping you received the card in the hospital. Sounds like you are on the mend, hang in there.
