Water pump questions

I'm working on putting a c123 engine into an A, I've had to fabricate an upper outlet pipe to fit on the head. My questions are 1) do I need the by-pass pipe on the water pump or can I plug the pipe? 2) do I need a thermostat? I assume I will need the thermostat to slow the water down moving through the radiator to properly cool it. I'm not sure what the by-pass is for. Thanks for your help.

You dont need the thermostat or the by-pass for that engine in an A realy dont even need the water pump but the one on the engine mite as well be used. You didnt say but your engine must have came from a 240. The later engines will turn a lot more rpms that the original 113 in the A.240 tricycle i had turnedquite a bunch more than anoriginal 113 would have turned.

You're right, it's from a 240. I thought I would need a thermostat because it seems anything with a water pump had one. Thanks for the info.
