I changed filter and hy tran fluid on my 1963 Farmall 706 diesel. I can't find info on how much hy tran fluid goes into the transmission. There is a plug on each side of housing. I am asumming that is where you fill it, but don't know how much fluid. What I need to know is how much fluid and do I fill it till the fluid runs out the plugs.
Thanks for your time.

There is a dip stick by your right foot when sittin on the seat fill it to the full mark or some over won't hurt anything. I think its like 17 gallons but it has been a number of years since I been around an 06 series.

The plugs on the sides of the final drive housings are for the oil in the final drive units. On the original 708/806 these housings did not have a common reservoir with the transmission and rear end. The were drained and filled separately. It is a common practice to droll holes in the rear frame to allow the oil from transmission to also fill the final drive housings but when that is done the head of the check/fill plug is to be cut off to indicate that it is no longer necessary to fill it separately.

I have had a couple older IH mechanics tell me to add an extra 5 gal after the fluid is to the full mark., which IIRC is 17 gal. This will prevent loss of oil to the pickup when operating the tractor on an incline. Have done it for years in our 06 series tractor w/o a problem.
