Does a hole need to be drilled & tapped in head to install tank heater? Also where can a headbolt heater for H be purchased? Thank you.

Why don't you install one these heater's in the lower hose and use a timer on it. Hal

A tank heater can be plumbed by using a T at the temp gauge opening and using the block drain for the inlet to the heater.

Or even better install the correct amount of anti-freeze solution to avoid the trouble, and maybe keep a drop-light behind the radiator at night if it gets really cold. Or you could do like a neighbor of mine does and just drain the water jacket completely every evening, then refill it with hot water from the house in the morning. On REALLY cold mornings, he boils the water first. The drop light trick will also work to keep it unfrozen during lunch time as well if it is good and hot when parked.

Yes, that is the preferred method, and the one I have seen most often.

Where are you at, that you think you need a tank heater for a Farmall H?

It gets pretty cold around here (below zero) and as long as the battery will spin the engine over, the tractors will start.

Yes, but that H will start much quicker if it has a tank heater, and it will be ready to go to work almost immediately. The engine will also much less wear and tear because the oil is warm and it will flow much better. It's kind of nice to know the tractor will start and run when you have to get out at 5 am to clear a couple of feet of snow off the driveway so you or your wife can get to your town job on time.

The circulating tank heaters work well. I added one to our H a 10yrs ago. Plug it for 10-20 minutes before you need to use it, and it will start well below zero. Only problem then is you"ll want a cab when it"s that cold!(-10 below). I looked at one of the "in line" hose heaters, but there was not enough room to mount it. Never could find a bolt head bolt heater.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks a radiator hose heater will work on an H hasn't been around very many H Farmalls. Plain and simple, there is no room for one of those.
