hydraulic valve body leaks on 400

First time to get out and work this tractor since I bought it two months ago. It appears to be leaking hydraulic oil from between where the valve bodies go together and from the valve bodies to the reservoir.. I tried tightening the two bolts and two nuts that hold it all together but it still leaks.

Is there just a gasket that goes between each section or is there another common problem that it could be?

You have a bad O-ring between two valves or end plate or manifold. If you have three valves there will be four joints or 12 O-rings. IH part #: 350667R1.

I am surprised because it seems they seldom go bad. There are two more smaller O-rings on the splined lever shaft. There is a larger O-ring on the bottom cap. There is a gasket under the top cap.

Install 12 O-rings with the following measurements: 11/16"ID x 7/8"OD x 3/32"cross section and you will be leak free for now.

I neglected to mention the O-ring on the "Single" and "Double" selector shaft. It is the same as the measurement above.

Thanks! I'll be looking for O-rings.

I'm newer into the hundred series machines and haven't been too far into one yet.

This one is actually an earlier 400LP with the large diameter tank. It's very un-messed with and was well cared for but the paint is gone. I think it had been sitting for a while and that could explain the o-rings drying out.

Maybe the system got overheated. Might want to remove the filter/strainer to see if it is caked with charred oil flakes and caved in. If it is restricting flow, it could cause cavitation problems with the pump.
