300U Forklift

I have a 300U with a built on rear forklift. I shut down the tractor with the forklift extended and then released the lever. As the mast came down I heard a gurgling sound and oil was coming out of the breather cap on top of the reservoir cover under the seat. About a quart came out.
The next morning I checked the fluid and it was just below full and clean. I started the tractor and raised the mast and it worked smooth. I shut the tractor off and lowered the mast and heard a lot of air hissing out of the breather cap but no oil. Having used this forklift in a daily farm operation for a long time I don’t recall hearing air escape before.
The mast does work ok now but I haven’t tried lifting anything.
Any thoughts on the oil escaping?

Thanks,
Dell

Is the mast a one-way cylinder? If so then is it just air being replaced by the returning fluid. If you never heard the air before check the breather to make sure it is not getting plugged up. When air is partially restricted it will make a louder noise.

As far as the oil escaping; do you recently add oil, was the tractor unlevel when you were lowering the mast? Just keep an eye on the oil level and you should be fine.
