Carb kit for a super m is $175 from IH and $30 from NAPA. What are the differences and why is the IH one so expensive. Is it worth the $$$. Where does everyone else get their carb kits?

The difference is IH cost more !!!

There are just NOT enough parts in that kit to cost $175.00

I could rebuild 3 Holley double pumpers for that parts cost !!!!

Well, if it is like my closest dealer you have to pay for the big flat screen TV in the lobby, along with the receptionist that transfers you to the girl that connects you to the service department and keeps track of how long you talk to a mechanic so they can bill you and don't forget the store manager that the salesmen have to answer to because he has to answer to three more guys which never gets to the top guy, and on and on. I hate getting parts anymore because it feels like you are walking into a nursing home. Everything is new and sterile. I wish I could have farmed in 1960!

That kit from NAPA won't have all the parts you need, but $175 from Case-IH is just crazy. I suggest you buy a basic gasket set with needle and seat for a Farmall M, or if you already know you need a new throttle shaft, buy the complete kit for an M. The choke shaft in the M kit will be wrong for the Super M, but everything else will be the same. If you need a new choke shaft, Case-IH is the only place to get it. None of the aftermarket kits have that shaft.

Try mcdonaldcarb.com for a basic kit with the adjusting screw packing. They also have the choke shaft for a super M if needed.

The $30 kit from Napa is a basic kit, gaskets, packings, and needle & seat.

I can get an aftermarket kit from my local parts guy that had both the throttle and/or choke shafts, but he has to order it. He keeps a basic kit on the shelf.

Tisco use to offer a kit that had the throttle & choke shafts in them. I purchased on for an M about 4 years ago. Our CIH dealer carried both the Tisco & the CIH kits. The Tisco was about 1/2 price of the CIH.

I have had better luck with the CIH needle valve & seats than the aftermaket ones. I have had the aftermarket ones stick right out of the box, never have had that happen with the CIH ones. They can be purchased seperately from the complete kit. I usually buy an aftermarket basic kit, throw away the needle valve & seat & put one from CIH in.

The needle valve and seat in the Tisco kit is just fine, but you do need to spray both parts with carb cleaner before installing, and then the needle will NOT stick.
