'49 Farmall M

We were told the one we have might be one of a few of that year that came from the factory with M & W parts. Is that true? If so, does anyone know what that would be worth?

Lot would depend on how many M&W parts are on the tractor and if you can convience someone that
IH got the parts and had there employees istall them on a new tractor before it left the factory.
Think I remember M&W Co. got started around 1948. Someone correct me if the year is wrong.

I am not aware that any tractors came from the factory with M&W parts installed. It is possible however that the dealer might have installed those parts BEFORE he sold the tractor, in which case your M is just another Farmall with M&W parts on it.

ih did not like m+w. outside improvements on their tractors made them look bad and as dave is hinting most all of the eighteen m+w improvements for a farmall m came after production was over for that model.

I would tend to agree with the group. I have never seen documents or anything written in books that IH used M&W from the factory. Dealers had quite a few aftermarket items they would sell and install. From the factory? Nope.

18? wow, I've seen several on tractors at shows or auctions, I had no idea there were that many though.

M's were long out of production when I got into the game, 350, 450 etc, but if we put an M & W product on a new tractor the warranty on tractor was pretty much null and void. Dealers used various ideas to skirt that situation however. Kind of like the three SSS theory.

From what I have heard.A FEW dealers were really into instaling M& W parts.(NOT every dealership was willing to do so.)I have read this on line quite abit by reputable people.Guys "back in the day"having it done at a dealership.)Piston kits,9 speed trans,ect.

But I have HEARD IH "dealer only".NEVER have heard of IH FACTORY installing ANY M&W parts.They REALLY frowned upon anybody making parts for their tractors.

Here again,only read about it/heard aboutit by people back in the 50's.I wasnt even alive yet!!!!
