I just purchased a Farmall H, the serial number plate is missing, how can I determine what year it is?

The letters youse are talking about will give you the day, month, and year each part was manufactured. The first number is the month(2=Feb). The second number or set of numbers is the date(approxamate). The letter gives you the year. 1931 was the first year for this system so they started at A.If youre letter was K,the year would be '41. The letter v was skiped and the letters where started over in 1955 being A agin. Hope this helps!

Dan that serial number will be above or below the number one spark plug. The engine and frame may or may not have matched up. Also on the main cast iron assemblies, you will find stamped dates that look like 2@22@P where P stands for the year of the casting.

Dan There's another number on the engine block with that you can check the serial number chart on the left side tool bar here.To determine what year your tractor is.
