Bought a new temp gauge for the h and i am attempting to take the old brass bushing out of the motor to put the new one in that came with the new gauge. I can"t get the bushing loose for the life of me. Is it possible the bushing is reverse threaded? Thanks!

I wish i could stay with the original but on the new gauge the insert into the motor bushing is smaller than the current one which is why i was trying to get the original bushing out. I was just assuming that the old and new bushing would be the same size for the hole in the motor. I guess maybe I could go to lowes and see if i can find a bushing to fit inside the original bushing and just leave it. Step up the sizes. Hopefully all the holes would be big enough for everything to fit and it wouldnt be out of the motor to far. Thought a new temp gauge would be a 15min job....oh well just wouldnt be a challenge then!

The bushing is a right hand standard 1/2" pipe thread bushing. It's just in there tight. I used a torch, hammer and chisel till I got it out in pieces with out damaging the threads in the head. Have patience and be deliberate.

Believe me..... stick with the original if possible. The new brass ones are terrible.

Mine has a plug in it, soaked it for weeks, tried some heat on it, but never got it out. Good luck to you.
