hi every one hope things are well.. bin awiel since being here. just woundering cince rebuild, two head gaskets, and still leaks. what grade of pepper will work and how much . course or fine? thanks. going on a tractorcade from vinton iowa in the morning. thanks....

Have you gotten the tractor hot and then retorqued the head gasket? A lot of guys will do it multiple times until the bolts torque off right away.

Did you deck the head/block when you did the rebuild/head work? Did you use copper sealer? Was the surface clean enough when you applied the head gasket?

copor sealer? did a retourqe once this last time.went to 85 ft. pounds did seal the head bolts this time with a gm sealer. and the head and block was all cleaned and checked. after market gaskets any thing to do with it? its a 133, but the gasket box says 123-135. when i ordered them i said for a 1939 A. and thay sent that oe what he said. thanks...need a clue....

like sflem849 says, copper cote ( think that is how they spell it on the can) is the way to go. You can get it at any auto parts store, it comes in a spray can and you spray it on one or both sides of the head gasket before installation. I only have ever done one head gasket but with retorquing and copper it worked fine.

Best to fix it but Pepper, egg whites, all kinds of stuff works. But why not just buy a bottle of Bars Leak or can of silver seal at Caseys. Should get you through the ride

thanks, guys. ill know more when running thi s ride and hope i wont have to take it apart again to make it rite .. il let you know what happens. thanks. and its going to be hot, wheather wize........

85 lbs. sure seems low to me on those studs. i always use the spray on permatex hi-tac gskt adhesive. hold gskts in place and does not harden.have been using this for over thirty years and never run into a leaky head gskt. i am quite sure that torque should be around 100-115 ft lbs. 85 lbs just wont cut it, i mean seal it, neither will pepper.

Your A should have a 113 engine, unless it's been replaced with a Super C or later, which would be a 123. Not sure on the 113 head torque, but early 123 engine, the torque would be 65 ft.lb. and later 123 and 135 engines were 80 to 90 ft.lb., according to the I&T manual.
