300u hydraulics all messed up

Where to even start. Rear hydraulics have been getting progressively worse the past year. Decided to do something about it. I have replaced filter screen in resevoir, cleaned little screen in pressure relief valve. New hy-trans fluid. I have even taken pump apart and inspected it. New seals in pump. Now after all that... I have no lift whatsoever. After each of the previous steps i had a hard time getting pump to prime and build enough pressure to operate lift. But eventually it always did. Not this time. I'm stumped, I'm oily, and I'm frustrated! Any comments or suggestions please.

I'm not real familiar with your model of tractor, but what type of hydraulic pump does it use? You might have to rebuild the whole pump with new springs, etc. depending upon what you have. I had to do this once with my tractor and it solved the problem real well -- going on a decade now with strong hydraulics.

Good luck and report back with your solution so that we can learn about what works.

Did you check the clearances in the pump when you had it apart? Sounds like the gears may be worn and after putting it back together it is unable to prime itself. Roger

Drive the front tires into a ditch 18 inches below the rear. Use an air fitting on the reservoir (Vent unit hole with schrader (valve stem) valve adapted. use a tire pump, or regulated air pressure to put a max of 20 PSI in the reservoir. start it and work the valves and steering (if power). Best of luck. Jim

I did not check clearances on the pump. Don't understand how a pump wears out after only 60 years! It will build pressure but it takes a long time. Every time it sits for awhile she takes forever to build pressure again

If the tip of gear to housing is more than .002" it will not be very powerful. Cleaning the screen and making the system checks you have should help.
An air leak on the suction side will also let it drop prime, and be slow. Jim
