Cub Plug Wiring

I've confused myself on wiring to the plugs from the distributor cap. Please un-confuse me as my notes (when I removed the wires months ago) do not agree with what seems to be the schematic in the Operator's Manual and the Preventative Maintenance Manual.

My 1950 cub has a generator with the VR mounted on top of the generator. There is a distributor which mounts to the engine after aligning the "tangs" on the distributor with slots in the housing at the front of the engine.

The distributor cap has a "1" between two of the four sparkplug wire connection points.

Engine cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4 beginning at Front of engine. Tehehe.

Now what do I do other than shake my head?

Thanks.

your cylinders are numbered 1-4 on head there is a number 1 on distributor cap. put plug wire from number 1 on cap to number 1 on head.now going clockwise from number 1 on cap the firing order is 1 3 4 2 take your wires and match them to the numbers on head

They go the cap in this order to each sparkplug
with No1 plug near the radiator. Hal
2-1
4-3 as the rotor rotates CW.

If you removed the distributor did you bring No1 piston near the radiator to TDC on the compression stroke before installing it? Hal
