Does anyone have a different source for axel and differential bearings other than CaseIH. I have always put genuine parts in my tractors, but I am suffering a bit from sticker shock!
ST 223 $136.40
ST 310A $123.79
ST 218 $123.79
ST 283 $228.05
and I need two of each! Thanks

motion ind. the bearings for my h was over a hundred bucks a pop gotem from motion for around fourty bucks anyhow i wound up with the inner the outer bearing and the seal for less than i could find one bearing elsewhere

gotta be careful with replacement brgs. they may have less ball in them. the genuine is more for a reason. know from experience.

OEM bearings are good quality, but also have shelf rent factored in too. Bearing houses can cross the numbers or measure your bearings and get a brand name/quality replacement cheaper. They also can get import bearings much cheaper. But you get what you pay for.

Are you working this tractor hard in tillage applications or "playing with it"? If you are doing light work, non-OEM will work for the life of the tractor.

I have a MF 52, 10' disc harrow I'm rebuilding. The gang bearings ( 8 ) are $65-$82/ea. I found import bearings (KML) from http://www.thebigbearingstore.com/index.html for $12/ea. $102 shipped for ( 8 ) bearings. No brainer since I'm using it for pasture leveling and food plots. It's light work compared to what it did 40 years ago.

If you are computer savvy, you can GOOGLE the parts and find a cross reference number. That is how I found my disc bearings.

I got mine from Bearings Inc in Elkhorn/Oak Creek, WI. Motion Industries is the same type of buisiness and is located all over.
The bearings I got from Bearings Inc looked like the same exact bearings that I took out. The balls were the same size and number. You can't put less balls in a bearing or they will slap around. If you read the bearing poster at John Deere they tell you there is a difference. The only problem is you can't see any of them with your naked eye.
You could also check eBay or the rest of the internet. You could get them shipped straight to you.

sure can have less balls in the 2 same brgs.the original ih had more smaller balls in it.the replacements had less and the balls were bigger, the original had more meat to it and was heavier than the replacement. this was it the trans on my W12. i used the lighter ones because tractor would only be used in parades.no they dont slap around because they are caged also.as i said experienced this so can you question it.

If you think about it, IH and other tractor manufacturers are not in business to make bearings. They make tractors. Bearing manufacturers are in the business of manufacturing bearings. Their reputation depends on how well they make their bearings. So, they are usually going to make a superior product. Bearings usually have specs as far as what weight they will carry, or what speed they can withstand. That's what you need to be concerned about. I'm going to guess that many tractor manufacturers have their bearings made by, you guessed it, bearing manufacturers. JMHO

Companys like Motion Industries supply bearings to industrial customers for a lot more crititcal applications than antique tractors. For John Deere or case IH to claim theier bearings (many of them made in Mexico or China) are better is BS.

You will find name brand bearings from a business that specializes in bearings and seals considerably cheaper than CaseIH. SKF is an example. Most of the bearings in the drive train of my Super A are SKF, still not cheap. I believe SKF used to be Timken, someone can correct me. I did put Chinese bearings in the final drives of my Super A, may not have been a good idea, if the next owner, if any, works it to death. I only use it for mowing.

measure your bearings with a caliper using the metric setting, yes they are all metric bearings. do a search on google or ebay, as long as you stay with brand name (skf, fafnir, ect) you will be fine. i too priced bearings at ih and they were over a grand, bought them from various companys that wholesale overstock bearings and spent $325 bucks.

IH had their own bearing factory for many, many years. I don't know who they get them from now. If you see a bearing marked WP( West Pullman, Ill,) that is a IH bearing as that is where the plant was. They quit stamping them IH as they sold a lot to different machine mfg's and that IH would not look good. They were constantly updating, improving, increasing capacity etc on their bearings. Any ball bearing with loading grooves is an increased capacity bearing, they need the grooves to load the extra balls. Lots of difference in bearings. Now in an old tractor, most any light duty bearing will work just fine.

I've dealt with Mike out at Steel Wheel Ranch a lot on used bearings. He keeps a rather large invetory of good bearings from every tractor he parts. If you're close enough to go out there he'll let you go through and pick out your own or I wouldn't hesitate in trusting him to send you the best of what he's got. If my memory is correct on some of the larger axle bearings the most I've spent was around $25.

case ih is now getting its bearings for the older farmalls from skf. i did buy a couple i couldnt find from caseih and they were both skf.

Here's a few numbers from IH's Ball & Roller Bearing catalog dated 2/79. They'll be listed IH number first, manufacturer's name (&/or abbr.) second & manufacturer's number last.

No prob! I would say about 1/2 of those bearing mfgr's are merged with a current company. If you research who bought up who on the internet, that should tell you who still makes the bearings you need.

The only JD item on the place is my 7000 4RW planter. Going over it today found broken/disintegreated wheel bearing. Almost fell off the stool at the JD Implement place when he said that bearing would cost me, drum roll......
10.95. So I bought another for the other side of the axle, and two more for the right wheel.
