converting cub to 12 volt

HELLO GUYS,
I'VE A CUB THAT HAD A BAD ROD JOURNAL,I HAD THE CRANKSHAFT MACHINED AND REPLACED A CON-ROD.I BOUGHT IT AS A BASKET CASE SO IT WAS MOSTLY APART.I WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT IT TO 12V.I THINK IT WAS A 6V POSITIVE GROUND,NOT SURE.IT IS A 58-59 MODEL.THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP,SUGGESTIONS.

It is easy. You can put in a 12V battery (negative earth), replace the bulbs and add a 12V one wire alternator. You will get flack from the correct police but the 12V system work nice.
 
And FOR GOODNESS' SAKE, DON'T BUTCHER THE HOOD just to put an alternator on it. Small case alternators ARE out there.
 
Why bother it... You describe a lot of mechanical stuff without saying there's a problem with the electrical system. Reality is that a cub can/will/has fired off on 6vots for 60+ years... and putting a starter on them was nearly silly. Hand cranked one at age 9 and it's a lot less trouble.
 
My Cubs start just fine on 6 volt, One of them I use in the winter and it starts good in cold weather.
I think your only gain would be brighter headlights.
