super MTA positive or negative ground?

My 1953/54 Super MTA sn 69659 is set up with negative ground. I suspect that it is original because of past history of the tractor, but I am not sure. The owners manual that I have indicates positive ground, however major portions of this manual are merely reprints of previous publications. Does anyone know for sure what year IH switched to negative ground? Also does a 6 volt voltage regulator have to be specific to positive or negative ground?
Thank you Ellis Kinney

6 volt systems are (+) ground. 12 volt systems are (-) ground.

IH diesels were 12 volt (-) ground. IH gas tractors started the change to 12 volt (-) ground in the hundred series tractors.

You will have a better chance of a new regulator working if you have the Delco Remy # and the reg should say pos gnd.

Nope, Letter Diesels and many number series 12 volt Gas and Diesel were pos ground I owned a 48 that was alwasy POS ground. Jim

I wasnt around many MD/SMD/400/450D but the last 450 gas were 12v + positive ground. Delco-Remy was electrical systems on most of IH made in USA, I think GM engineers dictated what IH put on because of the price & what the automotive tech was going on.
