Tried plowing my garden with a 1 Bottom IH trailer plow, but the plow wont follow the tractor. What holds the plow straight,I cant keep the plow wheel in the fir when plowing. The plow beam is at 20 degrees to the left of center. It follows straight when just pulling it across the field.Does the rear landslide help hold it straight,it doesnt have a tail wheel

Sounds like you don't have your plow lined up right. The furrow wheel on the plow needs to line up with the rear wheel of the tractor.

If you have a hoop drawbar like on a letter series Farmall, pin the hitch on the plow to the right of center a couple notches.

You may also need to change the angle of the hitch on the plow itself if you can't get it to set over far enough.

After you get the hitch lined up behind the furrow wheel you need to adjust drawbar on the tractor so the plow hitch is level when in the ground. Thats why they called it LITTLE WONDER as it would wonder all ove if not set rite. I s the hitch lined up with the point of the plow.

James, when you get it right take some picture!
I alway like seeing your tractors and plowing would be great. oldiron29

With a 1-bottom plow, there's only ONE landside. I guess it could be the "rear landside" but it's also the "front landside."

The landside is what presses against the side of the newly-cut furrow, and keeps the plow running straight. It is down on the lower left side of the plow bottom.

If you're trying to run with worn-out, broken, or missing parts, you can't expect the plow to work right.

Did you adjust the tongue on the plow to make trail behind the tractor? If you swung the tongue too far to the left, the plow will just want to straighten out behind the tractor when you drop it in the ground.

If you sight straight backward from the end of the tongue, you should be at least in line with the landside edge of the bottom. Actually, you should be somewhere in front of the bottom. Anywhere to the left of the bottom will cause the plow to pull crooked.

A 1-bottom plow requires a narrow tractor like an A or B, or it must be hooked far off to the right on the hoop drawbar of an H or M.

(quoted from post at 09:55:08 04/27/11) After you get the hitch lined up behind the furrow wheel you need to adjust drawbar on the tractor so the plow hitch is level when in the ground. No. That is precisely the problem. The landside holds the plow, if you give it a chance. By running the hitch too flat, you make the plow "run on its nose" and you lift the landside out of the furrow bottom. And, the share has to be sharp and have suck or else it won't work either. So many people adjust the hitch trying to compensate for a worn share, when the correct solution is to fix the share! After that, there is the possibility that the landside is worn to make it rounded on the bottom making it easier to slide out of the furrow bottom.

I admit adjusting the plow hitch so that it is left of the beam is going to add side draft that the landside has to absorb, but it should take it. I add side draft to the 2-12" plow behind my M. You adjust the plow hitch side to side only to get the correct width of cut and to make the tractor steer well. Moving the hitch to the right because the plow is pulling crooked won't fix the problem!

My advice would be to adjust the plow hitch to be as low as possible on the plow, adjust the tractor hitch to be 15-17" from the ground and go from there. If the plow won't go in the ground then, you need to work on the share.
