April Fool's Day Can Be One Of Your Better Days.

First, most of the regulars are aware I have been in a nationwide hunt for a Farmall 240 battery cover for a new tractor I've purchased and will be starting it's restoration later this year. Someone who is unknown to me (I think so anyway) called the wife a couple of days ago and told her to watch for the mail on Friday. She didn't catch the name as she thought it would just be another tractor guy who would leave a phone number for me to call later. Well guess what, in today's mail was a box from the state of Wisconsin and inside was a Farmall 240 battery cover - and get this, not just a cover but that impossible to find original shift pattern plate riveted on the cover. This is just an impossible event in my tractor collecting days following retirement as I have never been the recipiant of such generosity in the nine years I have been active among this group of well serving individuals associated with these old red tractors. Whoever this individual is I certainly hope they come forward and allow me to personally thank them for making this my very best April Fool's Day. My email is open if you care to respond in that manner and thanks so much for sharing such a difficult item to locate, Hal.
P.S. I have met so many wonderful folks in my tractor endeavors and have many friends that I usually get to meet up with at the RPRU's and hope I get to introduce myself to another one this year in Albert Lea this June.

I had a similar occurance, just not as wild as yours. But the part is rare too. I have been a Red Tractor guy up till recently. I have most of my 1470+ post on the IH board. I recently bought an Orange 180 and also registered on the "Unofficial Allis Chalmers" site too.

There was a post of from a member that has some AC parts and wanted info on them. One was an electric temp gauge. This is the only gauge NOT available after market and it is sketchy if AGCO even carries it. I PM'ed the poster and he said he would sell it for postage and then denied that. I received a good, used electric temp gauge from a poster on a site that I had 2 post on. The kicker is he is a 23 yr old tractor buff. Not saying young is bad, I'm 30 myself. I think it is good that the generation coming up is interested in antique tractors too. He is restoring a D15 and I a 180 (on top of my Farmall 504).

Happy April Fool's (But this is true!)

Al, I received your note in today's mail and just really want to thank you for sharing such a very hard to find item. I've got wanted ads running in almost every IHC publication in this country with no success for the right cover. Most folks think the battery box covers for a C or SC are the same which they are not. I went to town this morning to see a body shop that has a weak spot for us old red iron diseased crazed folks and he thought he could repair the acid areas without much trouble.
Are you going to be at the RPRU this year in Albert Lea since it is like in your back yard? If so, I hope you can have dinner one evening with my wife and I and we will try and find some where they serve vanilla Coke-Cola and coffee as that is the least we can do. I ceretainly appreciate your generosity in sharing this part for my restoration and would like to have the opportunity to meet you and thank you in person and share some time with you if you can make the RPRU. My email is open and would like to share our cell phone contact informaion if you will have one at the RPRU if you'll send an email so I have your address. Thanks so much and I'll look forward to your response, Hal.

In my experience, when good things happen to good people it is usually for a reason. Someone is paying back or paying forward for something nice you"ve done.
