i was at a auction yesterday and there was a 300 farmall , wide front with a dual loader , power steering and chains. it seemed to run alright but when i pushed the pto lever in to the lock position and the brake stopped the shaft the motor would bog down and die. what would cause that. also when i pushed the loader down and lifted the wheels up it would come back down fairly fast , was there a bad seal in the valve bank to cause this?? i let it go at $2450 , i didnt know what it would cost to fix it and didnt want to get to deep into it. thanks

For all the crying about people being broke, auction prices are sure ridiculous.... Last Friday I went to a farm auction about 3 miles from where I grew up. Everything was junk, but it all brought crazy prices.

The Super MTA was nothing special to look at. Leaking at the head. Battery box completely gone. Drawbar ripped apart and welded back together (poorly) about a dozen times. Only ran on 3 cylinders. Both rear tires were showing early signs of breaks in the sidewalls. Clearly used hard and put away wet... a LOT.

$5400!!!!

There are cherry looking Super MTAs in the classifieds in Red Power magazine for less than that.

As for your 300, I have no idea why the PTO brake would kill the engine. Clearly the PTO clutches weren't releasing, but the PTO brake shouldn't have been able to overcome the torque of the engine.
