Farmall B Cultivator- Urgent

I just found a B that has been modified with a wide front end. I need a cultivating unit for it. front and back. I am going to run a small hydro pump of the PTO. I live in Ames Iowa.

Below is the picture. It looks like i could mount it below the lights where the wide front is now bracketed. might just fit?

Thanks,

Problem with a hyd pump run off the PTO is every time you push the clutch down you will not have a working hyd system which could be a pain. Years ago I built a mid mount sickle mower for a B I had and used a Chev power steering pump for the hyds and that worked real nice and gave me live hyds to boot

Old has a more solid plan for live power. What is the urgent question? You urgently need a cultivator? Use the wanted ads. You urgently need to know how to mount it? Show us the cultivator.

On a side note. Where did that tractor come from? Looks like it was a modified ginseng tractor. I'm guessing that sticker says Marathon Implement Co. The majority of US ginseng is grown in Marathon County, WI. I have heard of a lot of conversions of Bs done up there. Didn't know there was a "professional" kit.

That front axle has been damaged by running into something. The spindles need to be just a little forward of straight up and down. They are now backward of up and down. It will steer much more accurately if repaired. Adaptive modifications are going to be needed to make any cultivator fit and work correctly. Belt driven Hydraulics are much better. Jim

The spindles should be verticle, not leaning to the front on the top. The lean they have is not normal. They can be straight (plumb), or leaning 2degrees to the rear. I do not know where to bend is, but fixing it would make the steering more responsive, and directionally stable. Jim

The spindle tubes in your picture sit so that the tire is back instead of forward like it should be. Those spindle tubes which is the part of the front axle that has to parts that move to turn the front wheel should sit at a bit of a forward angle or straight up and down instead if sitting so the front wheels are back like they are in your picture

You have a long way to go to get this unit ready to plow with hydraulics and the mounting bolt holes for the cultivators are covered by the angles associated with the front end. If you wish to cultivate, you are going to have to scrap the home made front end and mount a spindle or a regular Farmall wide front. Both can be found. I would bet you are going to spend more money and time on this tractor than it would cost to buy a working SC with all the cultivators and you will not have all the problems with the lifts. If you want to get to work quickly, you might want to look for another tractor.

Did they jack it up a little, too? The rear rims are pressed steel and they look bigger than normal. I know ginseng beds are fairly high so this may have happened.

If they used the wide front from an A You will need the cult for an A. Now how many rows do you want to cultivate if you want to do more that one you will need the veggie model. Your rear width is still a B correct so that would determine somewhat spacing you could go. I dod build a cult for a fellow in Decorah who makes wine from rhubarb his rows were in a 50in grid and he wanted to be able to cult each way. He had just planted 1100 sets so i built him one for his B that had the A front. Now you can go back to the harrow original front also. Mite want to give me a call 319-430-3907 im located sw of Ia City so not that far from you. I have narrow front for the Bs also wide fronts for the As and cults for both.

You have a model B that was modified for the Gensing crops in Wi. That front was built and pattened by a shop up there tilted to the back for better steering. The rears arent original either and the seat has been lowered i have seen several of those tractors. We can turn the tractor back to original if you would like but those are different and some even had a reduction two speed box in the tourque tube for slower speeds i knao where one of them is located. Over the years several Bs were redone for special jobs like the ones made in Canada that had a complete redo for mowing tree farms also the ones reversed.

Thanks for all your help! I found some cultivators that where mounted to a B, manual lift. good price too. I'm going to try to modify them to fit this wide front. we will see how it goes. picking them up in the morning. Gene I will let you know if I decide to go with the cults from an A.

thanks all

A normal B cultivator won't work on that tractor anyway, with those oversize rear tires. It won't reach the ground.

B implements are RARE RARE RARE. Good luck finding your cultivators.

I dont see how you are going to make the cult from the B fit that tractor as the wide front and steerin rods are in the way. You mite be able to make a new plate bolted to the front that would set the frame for the B stuff back some as they have covered up the mounting holes for the wide front assy. See you can remove the wide front and get the narrow pedestal for a B then the cult will fit. There is neough room on the shanks and the pressure rods to make it lift and lower. The original front steering sector is still on the tractor and by removing the wide front and putting the oroginal pedestal back you are in business.
