350 Utility Power Steering Retrofit Round 2

Finally got started ( previous post last october http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=781559 ).

The power steering setup i bought from another 350u bolted right up. I decided to use an Adjustable Priority Flow Valve to tap the hydraulic power from the loader since Jackson steering uses those and no time to get a separate pump working. Will report how that goes.

NEED ADVICE: Can I use the left pitman arm from the manual box on the right side of the power box? if they were all the same anyway this is a no-brainier. I can"t tell what it is supposed to look like. I have four pitman arms, two from the manual steering setup, two from the power steering setup. I have two good ones that come off easy but they both came from the left side. I broke three pullers trying to get the right side off the old steering box and it has been repaired anyways (and maybe welded on) so want to give up. The original right side from the power box is broken.

That is great news, thank you so much. can you also tell if manual steering arms were the same part number as the power steering arms?

I am guessing the two arms on the manual system look different from each other because the previous owner thought he was making an improvement after it broke and he welded it back together.

It seems the steering system in general was the weakness of the 350u. I hope I have better luck. i am tempted to beef up the arm ahead of time since the right arm broke on both. I could weld a piece of channel around it.

If they look the same they are the same.
They are pretty tough, I snapped one when I was 10 driving into an Ice filled puddle at 14mph.
The best insurance against a very expensive broken steering box is a broken steering arm!! Jim

good point. i will try using the best two (both left). if one is a little longer i will put it on the side that is a little further back, i think the right side is a little further back.
