I am new to the site and farmall so bear with me I JUST purchased A 1944 FARMALL AV SERIAL 112189 BUT THE ENGINE #IS 366204 R1 THAT IS FROM A FARMALL 130. Sounds like prev owner changed THE ENGINE since THIS ENGINE DID NOT COME IN A 1944.IHAVE A FEw QUESTIONS
how rare is this tractor?
whats the difference between 1944 farmall av and a farmall 130 av high crop? is the engine the only difference?
How do i know it is really a 1944 0r newer since it has a 123 engine?
I like the white and red sheet metal should i restore it as a 1944 farmall av high crop or a farmall av 130high crop with white and red sheet metal ?
I am new to this so any insight will be greatly appreciated
THanks

It appears that you have parts from two different eras of Farmalls. A 44 AV would not have touch control (Hydraulics) A 130 high crop would have the two toned paint and the touch control. If it were my choice, I would try to keep it as close to the 130 as possible

Hate to sound like your high school english teacher but, shouldn't you tell him why you lean to the the newer model? I personally lean toward the older tractor for restoration but would go with the newer if I was going to use it and keep the hydraulics. Wondering what you were thinking.

IHGuy,
1944 AV did not have hydraulics; 130 did. The torque tube on the AV would be round or oval cross section in front of the battery box. The 130 will have a flat surface on top (with holes for bolt heads) where the touch control unit fit on the torque tube. The 130 engine has a mount for the hydraulic pump just beneath the distributor. If you do not have the touch control, that port will be covered with a flat plate. The AV originally had a magneto; the 130 a distributor. The AV had a 113 CI engine and less power. Your preference on restoration. Use or show and parts needed to go one way or the other would influence my decision. About 10 to 12 years between these two tractors.

Just because the engine was changed does not make it rare. If you want it to be original you need to change engines for one similair. You can paint it anyway you like as its your tractor. Bottom line do you want original or a cross breed. Get the original type block then stamp the same serial# thats on the seat. Replacement blocks came blank and when installed were stamped to what the oroginal block was.
